Co-Curricular Activities
Band
Band is unique in that it is a performance group that is both a class
and a co-curricular activity. The band is open to all students who have
background with a band instrument. There are Concert Band, Wind Ensemble,
Pep Band, and Jazz Band.

Bowling Club:

Bridge Club:
New for 2007-2008. Bridge Club meets Mondays in the Commons during

Campus Ministry
Campus Ministry allows students and faculty to deepen their faith not
only through religious experiences, but also in leadership roles as
music ministers, retreat group leaders, or other possible service opportunities.

Chess Team
Members participate in tournaments.

Chorus
Chorus is a performance group that is both a class and a co-curricular
activity. Choral groups are: Select Treble Choir, Women’s Chorus,

CHOICE
(Choosing to Help Others in a Chemically Free Existence)
Members of
this group pledge to remain chemically free and to help others make
positive decisions. Members pledge to support each other.

Close-Up
This program increases civic awareness among young people. It allows
students the opportunity to explore government in action. Close-Up believes
that informed and active citizen participation in the democratic process
is essential to a healthy community and a responsive government.

Dances
There are several dances throughout the year. They include: Mixers,
Junior/Senior Prom, JanJam Dance, Officer’s Ball, Homecoming, Silver
Belle.
Dorothy Day
Twice a month, Cretin-Derham Hall students and faculty prepare and serve
breakfast at the Dorothy Day Center in downtown St. Paul.

Drama
Four productions are staged each year and students act, sing, and work
behind the scenes in various capacities.
Drama Club is an opportunity
to be involved in theater without having to audition for a play or to
commit to after school rehearsals. The Drama Club attends local theater
productions and art films in the Twin Cities. Contact: Mrs.

Ecology/ Animal Club
“The Green Team”
This club is for students interested
in ecology and animal conservation and awareness. We explore projects
on and off campus. We act as stewards for the environment on a local

Family Events
These events include: Mother-Daughter Luncheon; Father-Daughter Dinner/Dance;
Father-Son Banquet; Mother-Son Dinner/Dance; Grandparents Day.

Figure Skating Club:

French Club
This student-run group is designed to provide an opportunity for interested
students to develop their knowledge of French culture and language.

Friendship Club
The Highland Friendship Club is organized by parents of young adults
with disabilities. CDH has teamed up to help organize many activities
throughout the year, including a retreat, dance and picnics.

G S A(Growning Seeds
of Alliance)
Supporting the directives of the Catechism
of the Catholic Church, the purpose of the G. S. A. is to educate
in order to address unjust discrimination and fear, and to ensure acceptance
based on respect, compassion, and sensitivity to all students, especially
those with a homosexual orientation (cf. Catechism of the Catholic

G. L. O. B. E.
(Gay, Lesbian, Or Bi-Sexual, Etc.)
G. L. O. B. E. is a student group that discusses issues that arise concerning
sexual identity, spirituality, culture, and the church. Emphasizing
that all are called to chastity, members meet for mutual support and
friendship (cf. Catechism of the Catholic Church, #2359).

Goodwill Ambassadors
The Goodwill Ambassadors go to grade schools recruiting, act as host/
hostesses for visitors, help at the Open House and Placement Test, and
partake in other public relations opportunities as they arise.

Support Groups
Alateen, After Care, Family Change Group,
Friendship Group, Insights/ Challenge, Men's Concerned Person's Group/
Women's Concerned Person's Group, Recovery Group, Tobacco Free Teens

Habitat for Humanity
Students help build homes for Habitat for Humanity, service opportunity.

Improv
Improvisation or "improv" is creating theater without the
use of a written script. The group presents three performances.

Intramural Badminton
League
The team is co-ed and provides training
and competition. All are welcome regardless of ability or experience.

Intramural Basketball
League
The Intramural Basketball League provides
intramural basketball competition in the winter months. There are two
different leagues, a 9th and 10th grade league, and an 11th and 12th
grade league. Contact: Mr. Macken
Investment Club
This club meets monthly throughout the year to discuss various investment
techniques and concepts. Contact: Mr. Schwarze
JROTC
The JROTC Program is a national program authorized by Congress
and conducted by the Department of the Army in cooperation with educational
institutions. Contact: LTC Dahlgren, MSG Smith, SFG Keuhn
Color Guard Cadets perform at ceremonies, i.e. alumni banquets, funerals, receptions.
Crack Drill Team Cadets perform precision routines with rifles. Members are selected by competition for A&B Squads. They march in Winter Carnival Parade and perform at many school functions.
Flight Club Students study aviation and experience C130 and helicopter flights.
Honor Guard Cadets serve as escorts for school and community events.
Orienteering Team Cadets compete in map reading events, go on camping trips, etc.
Rifle Team Students
The Rifle team is a varsity sport sponsored by the JROTC Department.
The team competes in area competitions that can lead to national or
even Olympic recognition.
Lasallian Youth
In the spirit of St. John Baptist de La Salle, the mission of Lasallian
Youth is to create a community of believers gathered in faith to share

Leap Forward for Children
The Wilder Foundation’s Child Development Center in St. Paul’s Frogtown
neighborhood offers CDH students the opportunity to care and play with
“at risk” children. This service is available each month to

Literary Magazine
The Literary Magazine staff reads entries that are submitted for publication
in Kaleidoscope, the literary magazine, chooses what gets published,
and puts the magazine together. Contact: Mrs. Fabel
Math Team
Members enhance Math skills and compete with other schools.

Minnesota Business
Venture
Minnesota Business Venture is an ideal way for
students to learn more about the world outside the classroom and meet
some of the people who make Minnesota business tick. Students will gain
valuable insights into the private enterprise system. Contact:

Mock Trial
Students prepare for trial and compete with other teams from the area
in a courtroom setting. Attorney coaches provide technical expertise

Nordic Skiing Club:
New for 2007-2008. This team is for enthusiastic and dedicated Nordic
skiers who have an interest in promoting this lifetime sport and who
also wish to improve their skills through technique training, drills,

National Honor Society
Students contribute time and service to the school and community.
Members are selected based on a GPA of 4.0 or better, participation
in school and community, and faculty recommendation. Contact:

Newspaper
Students design, write, photograph, produce the Chronicle,
the Cretin-Derham Hall student newspaper.

Political Affairs
Club
This club is the center of political and civic
activity. It creates a place where students discuss current affairs
and politics. They also participate in the Jr. States of America
Club- the largest student run organization in the country. Contact:

P. R. I. D. E. -People Respecting Identity Diversity & Equity
The group works to foster an appreciation for and an under-standing
of the many cultures represented in the Cretin-Derham Hall community.

Respect Life Team
The Respect Life Team is a group committed to actively supporting the
pro-life message, especially directed at peers. The goal of the Respect
Life Team is not only to state beliefs but also, through action, to
make a difference.

St. Mary’s Mission/Red
Lake Service Team
This annual immersion experience
takes place at the end of April each year. It offers participants an experience
with the Indian people of Red Lake Ojebwe Reservation. Contact:

Science Olympics
The Science Olympics Team competes against other schools in scientific
challenge type competitions.

Sowers of Justice
Sowers of Justice is a group committed to supporting the human rights
of people throughout the world. The group meets each week and organizes
a variety of human rights awareness actions throughout the year.

Speech Team
The team offers an opportunity for students to gain experience in public
address and oral interpretation by competing at eight to twelve tournaments
and invitationals, as well as regional and state competition.

Student Council
This organization provides students an opportunity to be leaders, do
service, unify activities, promote general activities at the school,
assist with the internal administration of the school, teach values

Thanksgiving Meals
on Wheels
The Meals on Wheels program, begun in 1970,
has served the traditional Thanksgiving meal to thousands of poor residents
of the Twin Cities. Contact: Mrs. Marzolf
Ultimate Frisbee
Ultimate is a fast paced aerobic sport that can be learned in minutes
and takes a lifetime to master. This club has a proud tradition
of being spirited, co-ed and fun. Contact: Mrs. Jennrich
Urban Plunge
Urban Plunge is an experience in which Cretin-Derham Hall students and
faculty encounter a social service agency from the inside out.
House of Charity in Minneapolis offers the homeless and working poor
a roof over their head and a gathering place for meals. CDH students
and faculty grow greater understanding of those who are in need and
