This
ninth grade interdisciplinary course is intended to provide students
with a common academic experience as they begin their secondary
school education. Based expressly on the CDH values of academics,
service, leadership, Catholicity, community, equity, and diversity,
this year-long course is team taught through the English, Religion,
Social Studies and Computer Science departments in the belief
that students will learn more effectively by seeing the connections
in their studies. The building of relationships among students
and their teachers, developing critical thinking and communication
skills, encouraging informed citizenship, and providing opportunities
for service are of key importance to this course. Students will
receive 1 credit per subject each trimester in English, Religion
and Social Studies, and will meet the Cretin-Derham Hall computer
literacy requirement. The course is divided into three interdisciplinary
units: Development of Community and Communities; Conscience,
Authority, and Leadership; and Personal and Religious
Citizenship.
ACADEMIC
INTEGRITY STATEMENT: In this class you will neither give
nor receive unauthorized aid without specific permission for collaboration
or without proper citation. This includes class work, quizzes,
examinations, preparations of reports or projects, or in any other
work that is used to evaluate you. You can expect that any papers
or projects you turn in will be checked to assure originality
and accuracy of citations. At Cretin-Derham Hall we uniformly
deplore cheating, lying, fraud, misrepresentation, plagiarism,
copying other students’ work, and other dishonest behaviors
that jeopardize the rights, welfare and integrity of Cretin-Derham
Hall.
Consequences:
First Documented Offense: Zero credit for work; Teacher will call
parents and the Dean of Students will be notified. The Dean of
Students will be responsible for assigning additional consequences.
Second Documented Offense: Academic Board of Discipline will recommend
consequences, which may include loss of credit for the class or
a recommendation for a Board of Review.
These consequences are not limited to cheating in one class; they
are cumulative.
GRADING
SCALE: Students will receive a separate grade for English,
Religion and Social Studies. Students may check their academic
progress on the Cretin-Derham Hall website at any time (www.cretin-derhamhall.org).
