
Originally from Montevideo, MN, and now in his fifth year at
Cretin-Derham Hall, Chris Jacobson has been singing in choirs for over twenty years. In high school he was involved in choir as well
as band and other fine arts, athletic, and extra-curricular activities.
Mr.
Jacobson attended Saint John's University in Collegeville, MN where he
was a Regents Scholar, Honors Program student, and earned a Bachelor of
Arts degree in vocal performance and choral music education in 2001.
While at St. John's he was a four-year member of both the CSB/SJU
Chamber Choir and Collegium Sine Nomine; as well as singing with the
St. John's Men's Chorus, the CSB/SJU Europe Choir, opera workshop, and
the St. John's Chant Schola. He studied applied voice, vocal pedagogy,
and choral conducting with Dr. Axel Theimer. In addition he studied
opera and vocal diction with Dr. Carolyn Finley and applied piano with
Drs. Jerome Coller, James Dennihan, and Ed Turley.
Since
graduation from St. John's Mr. Jacobson has taught choir, voice, and
other music topics in the Twin Cities suburbs of Oakdale and Brooklyn
Center as well as in Chatfield, MN. He also spent three summer seasons
on the staff of the National Catholic Youth Choir.
At
Cretin-Derham Hall Mr. Jacobson is the conductor of the Select Treble
Choir and Vocal Arts Ensemble and advisor/director of the Albert Street Singers
and SweeTones, as well as teaching individual applied voice
lessons to choir members. He is also the music theory and music
appreciation instructor. In the area of musical theater he
team-teaches a musical theater course and serves as music director for
the CDH Theater Department.
Outside his activities
at Cretin-Derham Hall Mr. Jacobson is currently a cantor at the Basilica of St. Mary in Minneapolis and the Church of St. Joseph in Montevideo. For its 2011-2012 season he will be serving as a section coach for the Minnesota All-State Men's Chorus. And he is also active as a clinician and adjudicator for choral, solo, and ensemble contests and festivals in the Twin Cities and Southeast Minnesota.
Mr.
Jacobson is a member of several professional organizations including
the National Association for Music Education, Minnesota Music Educators
Association, American Choral Directors Association, ACDA of Minnesota,
and the National Association of Pastoral Musicians.
