| | | Jazz BandJazz Band audition will happen the week of October 5th. Students interested in playing alto, tenor and bari sax, trumpet, and trombone must be enrolled in band to join jazz band. Those interested in guitar, bass, piano or drum set do not have to be enrolled in band but must be committed to the concerts and morning rehearsals. Please see Mr Fairweather in the band room, email at sfairweather@c-dh.org or call 651-696-3370 for more information. The Jazz Band will be attending the Mankato Jazz Fest on Saturday February 27th. For planning purposes, this will be an all day event. More information will be available soon. The schedule for the year is here. 2009-2010 Jazz Band Schedule- There are only 28 (Tuesdays) we meet during the school year. We need another day to meet either for sectionals or together as a whole group. I’d prefer to plan on meeting as a whole group and then if we need to only have sectionals, we have the option of doing so.
After talking with each of the current members, it appears that the consensus of the group is that we meet 2 days a week instead of 1. This is done so we can do the things we want to do and still find a balance between educational things (improvisation, theory, harder jazz charts- a.k.a the "meat and potatoes") with the fun things (gig tunes that are easier to play, going out and playing gigs (candy).
Meeting times will be Mondays at 6:45am- 7:40am and Tuesdays 6:45am- 7:40am.

Other opportunities- Jazz Combo, Tuesdays and Thursdays after school 2:45-3:45. I encourage all jazz members to try this group sometime to improve or practice their improvisation. Rhythm section players are especially encouraged to try this group to improve many of the unwritten aspects of playing jazz that can not be explained necessarily, but must be experienced. Guitar, piano, bass guitar and drum set players are encouraged to inquire. Anyone can join, no experience is necessary. See or email Mr. Fairweather for details.
Random Jazz meets Friday mornings- hungry for more jazz, perform with this group. No audition is necessary, however dedication to the group is needed. This group is open to any instrument interested. We had had such instruments such as: cello, euphonium, French horn, violin, flute, and many others. Please see or email Ms. Novey for information.
