1. To assist students in achieving academic success
   • Adjustment to classes
   • Completion of assignments
   • Collaboration with teachers
   • Development of organizational skills
2. To have students take ownership for their learning
3. To help students understand themselves and gain the hope and confidence necessary to manage their learning needs
4. To assist students in evaluating their strengths and weaknesses and in setting goals for each trimester
5. To provide testing services when appropriate
   • Oral testing
   • Arrangements for extended time or a different environment for tests.

Based on the academic information provided and a realistic appraisal of school resources, CDH may develop a Learning Plan to meet the needs of the student. This plan is then shared with the student’s teachers and our best effort will be made to address the student’s individual needs. Parents/guardians, administration and staff may receive the plan and adjust it if needed.

In order to develop this plan, we need access to the following:
1. Any academic testing and related recommendations
2. The accommodation provided at the student’s last school
3. If applicable, the IEP or 504 Plans that have been in place.

CDH may not be able to accommodate all students because of our existing resources.

Common Ground is designed specifically to support students with intellectual/developmental disabilities. 

Through the Common Ground program, CDH offers students:

• Participation in five mainstream courses
• Specialized instruction in reading, writing, and math
• Support of an 11th or 12th grade peer in each class through Common Ground’s peer mentor program
• Engagement in extracurricular activities
• Preparation and collaborative planning for post high school educational and employment opportunities 
• A community that values their unique gifts and abilities, and nurtures and guides them in their academic, social, physical, and spiritual development 

Common Ground offers personalized support, fostering growth of the whole person in an environment where every student is encouraged to reach their fullest potential. Through individualized learning plans, dedicated staff, and inclusive classroom practices, CDH aims to teach the minds and touch the hearts of students with intellectual/developmental disabilities and provide them with the skills and confidence they need to succeed both in school and beyond.
