Performing Arts Students Take on New York City

Students from our band, choir, and theater programs traveled to New York City April 8–11 for a four-day trip focused on performances, workshops, and arts-related experiences. The trip was led by Band Director Teddy Williams, Choir Director Delilah Schuster, and Theater Director Cullen Wiley '16, along with several chaperones who accompanied the group. Students visited major performing arts venues, attended university clinics, saw Broadway productions, and performed in the city. Each day, students shared highlights and behind-the-scenes moments from their trip.

Day 1: Big Apple, Big First Day

On Wednesday, we all got up bright and early to the airport to make our way to New York City! Once we arrived, we hopped right into touring the Lincoln Center for Performing Arts, including the Juilliard School, and New York City Ballet. Shortly after, we moved to the Rockefeller Plaza area and explored all the food and activities the space had to offer! Towards the end of our night, we went up all 70 floors of the Rockefeller Center to its observation deck for a beautiful view of the city skyline. Right before boarding the bus we were all surprised with a quick meet and greet with Tommy Brennan '12! Amazing first day of the 2026 performing arts New York trip!

Day 2: Broadway, Birdland, and Big Learning

We had an early morning and started the day by heading to Seton Hall University. Each group had separate clinics with their respective professors. Following this, the group split up and experienced broadway imagined. This program opens participants eyes to how broadway shows are run and the work that goes into them. The group was reunited after this, at the Met art museum, followed by a walk through Central Park. To end off the day, everyone got to go to Birdland jazz club, and hear the Yellow Jackets play some of their best hits.

Day 3: Liberty, Lights, and Hadestown

Today was jam packed for the CDH preforming arts group! The crew woke up bright and early and headed to Liberty Island to see the gorgeous Statue of Liberty! After walking around the island the crew visited the Radio City Music Hall for a backstage tour! After their tour the group walked over to Times Square to explore and get dinner. The day ended on an amazing note as the crew got to watch a broadway production of the hit musical Hadestown!

Day 4: Final Performances and Farewell Feast

Saturday, our final day in NYC, we performed at the retired actors retirement home as well as Little Italy. During the performances everyone was super supportive of one another. In Little Italy we all had a family style lunch that included bread, pasta, and TIRAMISU!! It was our final meal together before our travels home.
