On Wednesday, February 4, CDH held its 24th annual Empty Bowls event in the Len Horyza Gymnasium. The event’s mission is to fight hunger and support sustainable solutions for communities in need, with all funds raised going to Heifer International. Lunch was served during the school day, and dinner, held from 4:30 to 6:30 pm, welcomed the broader community with a variety of soups, chili, and bread from 12 local donors.

This year’s leaders included Nico Cortez-Orme ’26, Mary Jensen ’26, Ellen Kovats ’26, Olivia Laughlin ’26, Alexa Wahlberg ’26, Carolynn Ek ’27, Lauren Fairbairn ’27, Greta Johnson ’27, Ellie McQuillan ’27, Meghan Muckala ’27, Anna Snustad ’27, Mateo Chevrier ’28, Jameson Downs ’28, Madison Gehrman ’28, Muggs McMahon ’28, Elise Nobrega ’28, Audrey Seymore ’28, Marco Silva ’28, Kara Callahan ’27, and Max Mattaini ’28.

Empty Bowls was founded in the winter of 2002 by Abby Nachtsheim ’05 and Jenny Kampa ’05 with the goal of not only providing aid but also empowering individuals, families, and communities through sustainable solutions. Over the past 24 years, that vision has continued to grow and thrive.
