Counseling Today: One stop shop for counseling news - June 2026

Welcome to June. Please read further for more information about what’s coming up this month. We also encourage you to follow us on Instagram for more regular reminders and updates.

We are proud to say that our counseling department is a Recognized ASCA Model Program (RAMP), with CDH having earned RAMP status during the summer, 2023. We are the only private high school in Minnesota to have this designation. Feel free to read more about this great honor, what it took to earn, and what it means for our students!

If you need to contact us, take a look at our contact page on the school website to determine the best person to help address your needs.

Graduation Statistics

Congratulations to the Class of 2026! We had an incredible group of seniors and it's exciting to see what wonderful things they are embarking on next.
94% of our graduating class is choosing to continue their education with 88% attending 4-year schools, and 6% attending 2-year schools. 11% will be continuing a sport in college. The remaining handful are pursuing Junior Hockey, Military, Employment, or a Gap Year. To see where students are headed, please stop by our Class of 2026 Bulletin Board in the counseling office! We will have CDH students represented in 29 states and Washington D.C.

Structure = Best practice for Mental Health

Summer is here and many students look forward to having more free time!  This means no early mornings, no class or sport responsibilities, no assignments due.  With no school organizing their days, lack of structure can lead to anxiety and depression. More screen time, sleep and eating disruption and lack of routine can all lead to boredom and restlessness.  This in turn can lead to risky behaviors including substance use to fill the time.

What are the benefits of structure?

Structure can help teens feel more in control thus reducing anxiety and can provide a sense of purpose. Structure including physical activity promotes a feeling of wellbeing. Educational activities can help prevent academic decline. A structured routine can help teens maintain healthy sleep and eating habits.

Ideas for creating structure:
  • Create a schedule that balances free time and structured activities.
  • Do things that move your body.
  • Set screen time limits.
  • Establish sleep and wake times and regular meals.
  • Engage in activities like summer jobs, volunteering and youth camps that promote interaction.
  • Engage in educational activities.
  • Tell someone about these goals

If teens are having struggles with substance use during the summer months here are some resources to call:
