Parents and Grandparents at the Heart of CDH’s Most Cherished Traditions

Parents and Grandparents at the Heart of CDH’s Most Cherished Traditions

The moments families remember most at CDH often happen at its signature events—and behind those moments are parents. Through the Parents’ Association, parents help bring families, students, faculty, and staff together to celebrate milestones, form lasting connections, and create traditions that endure.

PA President Amy Perry says parents rarely talk about the Parents’ Association without mentioning one thing first: the events, and how special they are. Each month, parent volunteers collaborate to plan experiences that truly matter—from supporting faculty and staff during conference days to hosting beloved traditions like the Mother/Son Dinner and the Senior Lock-In. These are moments families talk about long after the evening ends.

A Natural Way to Connect

For families new to CDH, the Parents’ Association is one of the easiest and most rewarding ways to feel at home. Treasurer Renee Miller notes that PA events play a key role in creating a welcoming environment where families feel connected and supported.

That sense of belonging resonates with parents like Alissa Salvato, who recalls how getting involved early made a lasting impact on her family.

"When my sons were freshmen, volunteering at PA events helped me get to know the school and meet other parents. Attending events like the Mother/Son Dinner really deepened that sense of belonging for our family.—Alissa Salvato, CDH Parent

Participation doesn’t require a major commitment. Parents are encouraged to join in however it feels right—help behind the scenes, attend a dance, make a donation, or simply enjoy an event with their children. Every bit of involvement strengthens the CDH experience.

After volunteering just a few times, Louise Garner discovered how special the PA community truly is. She describes the parents behind the scenes as “amazing,” adding that collaborating to create positive memories for students is not only meaningful, but also genuinely fun.

Grandparents Make It Even Better

CDH’s sense of community extends beyond parents. The Grandparents Association adds extra warmth to campus life throughout the year—welcoming students with donuts on the first day of school, offering treats during exams, celebrating Valentine’s Day, and more. These multigenerational connections enrich the CDH experience and make traditions even more special.
