Boys Swimming and Diving Team Earns Academic Silver Status and Matt Baumberger '24 Heads to State Meet

March 3, 2023

The CDH Boys Swimming and Diving Team earned a Team GPA of 3.72 and achieved an Academic Silver Status at the Section 6 AA meet for the 11th year in a row. It is their 18th year earning an Academic Section Award. The other seven awards were Gold Status for having a GPA of 3.75 or higher.

"At the meet, our guys swam out of their minds," said Head Coach Mike Steineman." We had 21 total swims and 95% of those swims were lifetime or season bests! This is the best that we have ever done as a team at a championship meet!"

Individually, Captain Matt Baumberger '24 finished in 2nd place in the 200 Individual Medley (IM) with a time of 1:56.64. His time beat the State Qualifying Time of 1:57.59. In addition, in the 100 Butterfly, Matt won the event in a time of 51.53, again beating the state qualifying time of 52.40. He advanced to the State meet in both events and will swim in the Class AA State Swimming and Diving meet Friday, March 3 and Saturday, March 4 at the U of M Aquatic Center. This is the 9th year in a row that the CDH Swimming and Diving team has sent someone to state.

In addition to the student awards, Assistant Coach Hannah Zobitz '13 won Assistant Coach of the Year as voted by the Coaches in this Section.
