Campus Ministry Starts New Service Opportunity Open to All Students
November 12, 2018
This year, Campus Ministry has started a new after-school service opportunity open to all CDH students called Tutor Thy Neighbor -"Love thy neighbor, learn with thy neighbor."
Partnering with the TASHO Community in Minneapolis, CDH students tutor and mentor Somali youth in grades 5-11 who are looking to improve their English and math skills. Tutor Thy Neighbor takes place twice a month on Thursdays, 3-6 p.m., and transportation is provided.
Ms. Ceara Curry, the St. Joseph Worker in Campus Ministry, along with a group of students, has visited with the TASHO Community three times this trimester. They have many more visits planned throughout the school year.
Ms. Curry said about the experience, "It is so wonderful to see CDH students willing to try something new. I think it's incredible that they have the opportunity to engage with their Somali neighbors – both learning about the community and helping them to be the best they can be."
Thank you to the following students who have participated so far:
(Michael) Minsuk Cho
Kara Conrad
Maria Dean
Elliot Fobbe
Olivia Goddard

(Jane) Chi Le

Ms. Curry extends an invitation and welcomes more students to take advantage of this experience at some point this year. Tutor Thy Neighbor is a great opportunity not only for students to gain leadership skills, but also to form relationships and get to know the Somali community. Interested students should see Ms. Curry to learn more about this wonderful opportunity.
