To the CDH Community

May 29, 2020

 Dear Students, Parents, and Guardians,

Our community is grieving the sad and tragic death of George Floyd earlier this week, which has resulted in levels of confusion, distrust, and unrest that we have not seen here in our lifetimes. The situation challenges us on so many levels, and while these are difficult and complex issues to understand, we are called to seek peace, ensure justice, and promote the sanctity of life. Our founders, the Christian Brothers and the Sisters of St. Joseph of Carondelet, have given us a legacy of love that promotes social justice for all.

Our prayers are for the family and loved ones of George Floyd, as well as our larger community as a whole. Our prayers here at Cretin-Derham Hall are also offered especially for you, our students, some of whom may know and feel this tragedy on a personal level, and others who have not, but may recognize the need for us to grow toward a more peaceful and just community. As a hopeful people, we know that change and renewal are often born out of tragedy. We pray that the Holy Spirit will guide us to a more just, inclusive, and peaceful society.

We recognize that we are not together due to the pandemic, and that makes it more difficult to comfort each other in our pain. Please know that we are here for you and encourage you to reach out to a trusted adult, a teacher, or a coach if you need help.

We posted our daily prayer on social media this morning. If you have not yet, please join us in saying this prayer today. Our Peace Prayer, now more than ever, provides us with the gentle words of wisdom that seem so very relevant today during these unsettling times.

May God bless you and may God bless our homes, our school, our cities, and our state.

Frank Miley, President and Mona Passman, Principal
