1960s

Joe Jansen '66 is the new Commander of the 4th District American Legion for St. Paul and Ramsey County.

1980s

Officer Reis (center) with his family.Officer Thomas Reis '86 received the Richard H. Rowan award from the St. Paul Police Department.

Reis is a 19-year street cop nominated for his commitment to improving and strengthening police-community relationships. He is a career officer who exemplifies respectful enforcement along with his dedication to community engagement – a valuable but rare mix. Last year, Officer Reis was recognized by the Minnesota Office of Traffic & Safety for getting a hat trick – three DUI arrests in one night. He was also honored by MADD for being one of the top DUI enforcers in the state.  

Officer Reis is also passionate about building trust and empowering the people he serves.

He has formed partnerships with locals businesses who are pleased to help us support youth activities. Officer Reis arranged for businesses to donate jerseys and tennis shoes to an entire basketball team from the High School for Recording Arts in Saint Paul.  Officer Reis is actively involved with many other community engagement events including, but certainly not limited to: Safe Summer Nights; Shop with Cops; Hallie Q. Brown toy drive (raised $800); East African Safety Event; a back-to-school event which offered free haircuts, backpacks and school supplies; East/West African outreach event; dodgeball and basketball tournament at Higher Ground Academy; Hallie Q. Brown food drive; and the Jimmy Lee football team recognition event.    

1990s

The PGA Championship was held at Bethpage Black in New York earlier this month. Molly Gallatin '97 was there in her capacity as Senior Director, Brand and Content Strategy for the PGA of America.

2000s

Tony Leseman '01 presented at the national Institute for Leadership and Entrepreneurship in Education conference on school Marketing and Enrollment Data Management. 

 2010s

Michael Syverud '16 was named a Newman Civic Fellow from St. John's University. 

He is part of a 262-person cohort representing colleges and universities from 41 states, Washington, D.C., Mexico and Greece. The Newman Civic Fellowship is a one-year experience emphasizing personal, professional and civic growth for students who have demonstrated a capacity for leadership and an investment in solving public problems.

“As an agent of change, I hope to make the opportunity gap for people much smaller,” Syverud said. “I am passionate about helping children realize their full potential, as childhood is the biggest platform to success later in life. I am also passionate about helping those with mental and physical disabilities, as they are often overlooked in our society. People with disabilities have just as much to contribute as someone without a disability, and I am passionate about helping them find their abilities.”

Casey O'Brien '17 received the Richard "Pinky" McNamara Student-Athlete Achievement Award from the University of Minnesota, given to individuals who have inspired all by making an extraordinary effort to succeed despite difficult circumstances, persevering during a time of tremendous adversity and/or overcoming a great challenge. Despite battling cancer for the fourth time, O'Brien has continued to participate in football practices and games while also achieving at a high academic level while pursuing his degree through the Carlson School of Management.
