Donate Blood - Save a Life

November 23, 2020

Hospitals nationwide are currently urgently in need of blood, and Raiders over the age of 16 can help! There is no training required, and your donation could save a life.

The drive will be held in the Griep Family Gymnasium on December 2, from 7 am to 2 pm. This is a Wednesday, our new Student Support Day, so please be sure to make your appointment for a time when you can be on campus.

"Giving blood is a way to save a life," said Tatum Evans '21, a member of the Student Council Service Committee. "You are donating your time and a piece of yourself to change someone's life. You can see the difference that you are making. Blood is always needed, but especially now. A virus does not stop the need for blood, as there will always be people that need it to survive. Countless drives across the country were canceled amidst the pandemic, which meant that there was a staggering blood shortage earlier this year. Since then, organizations have found ways for donors to safely give, but the need is still high."

Evans has some words of encouragement for first-time donors and those who might be nervous:

"Donating blood is scary, yes. But it's also rewarding and life-changing. It is hard to feel that way when you're sitting in the chair, but there is someone down the line that is going to receive your blood. In my opinion, that is a pretty cool thing to think about."

Students, faculty, and staff interested in donating should sign up at this link. Students age 16 will require a parental consent form. If you need one, reach out to Nicolle Spears or Laura Weiss.
