Boys Hockey Team

by Matt Funk, Head Coach

During Christmas Break, we had a great tournament, ending with the boys winning the Schwan’s Cup Gold Division in dramatic fashion with wins over Centennial (3-2 Overtime), Hill-Murray (3-2 Shootout), and Burnsville (6-2).

The following were the winners of the Hard Hat (Player-voted MVP of each game):

Centennial Game: Jack Nei '20
Jack scored the game-winner in OT on a great feed from Matt Gleason. Jack had a great game in both ends of the rink and had many big plays. He was awarded the Hard Hat by Croix Kochendorfer '22, a previous winner.

Hill-Murray Game: Nick Davison '20
Nick scored his first goal of the season with an unbelievable individual effort. His play on the PK and on the fore-check has been the key to the turnaround. His slick move on the shootout was the clincher for us as well.

Burnsville Game: George Maguire '19
George was the backstop for the entire weekend and kept us to two goals scored against per game. He made numerous big stops against Burnsville to keep it a two-goal game after the second period and allowed us to pull away in the third.

Boys Basketball Team

by Tony Yazbeck, Assistant Coach

The CDH Boys Basketball team is riding a four-game winning streak. We currently have a record of 7-3 with victories over Saint Thomas Academy, Benilde-St. Margaret's, Eagan, and Mounds View. Jaeden King '19 leads the team in scoring – averaging 23 points per game and was recently named Star Tribune Player of the Week. We have also received strong play from underclassmen Amari Carter '20, who had back-to-back 25-point performances, Curtis Jones '22, and Tre Holloman '22, who currently leads the state in assists and holds scholarship offers from Minnesota, Texas, and Baylor. The Raiders return home on Saturday afternoon when we host Edina. Tip-off is at 3 p.m.

Wrestling Team

by Dan Willaert, Head Coach

The Wrestling team is having a great season so far. The Raiders have a non-conference record of 8-6 and recently placed second at an eight-team dual meet tournament at North Saint Paul. Individually, the Raiders have been led by a pair of sophomores – Cage Linton '21 at 182 pounds and Carey Vanier, Jr. '21 at 160 pounds.

The Raiders will be hosting the Fourth Annual Sgt. Michael Carlson Memorial Duals on Saturday, February 2. The 12-team field will include some of the top programs in the state of Minnesota, such as Apple Valley, Forest Lake, Stillwater, and Totino-Grace. We are in need of volunteers to help as table workers during the tournament. If you are interested in helping out, please contact Coach Willaert at dwillaert@c-dh.org.

Girls Basketball Team

by Crystal Flint, Head Coach

At the midway point of the season, the CDH Girls Basketball team is one game under .500 with a 6-7 record and we are 2-3 in the conference. The team is still trying to find its identity and players are working hard to find their niche. With just three of the 13 players having any significant varsity minutes, we are competing with everyone. The girls work extremely hard and are trying to put both halves together (we typically have a very strong second half).

Frannie Hottinger '19, the team’s leading scorer and rebounder is back this season and leading the state in scoring, averaging 26 points a game. Frannie broke her career high in points per game twice this season with 35 (against Holy Angels) and 37 (against Lakeville North). At this pace, Frannie is on track to break the previous CDH career scoring record of 1,641 points—set by Jordyn Alt '14—with half the season ahead of us, plus postseason (sections included).

Last Friday, Sydney Jackson '20 had a break out performance, scoring a career-high 29 points, and connecting on eight three-pointers (tying a single-game record set by Jodi Loeblein Lecker '95). Sydney is the team’s second-leading scorer while Audrey Martinez Stewart '21 leads the team in steals (almost three per game).

Girls Hockey Team

by Brooke White-Lancette, Head Coach

2019 Rings in a New Year for the CDH Girls Hockey Team. We brought the 2018 season to a close with team building and celebrating the holiday together. Our CDH coaching staff continues to build relationships with players, as an important way to build upon team dynamics.

The Eden Prairie Holiday Tournament proved CDH to be highly competitive with close scores and the demonstrated resilience. As players evolve, we can determine what we can do to help them develop situational awareness, work toward success, and ultimately have fun playing hockey. The keys to the 2019 season will be team leadership, on-ice consistency, preparation, and discipline. We look forward to starting off the new year as we take on another conference match up on Saturday at Roseville at 1 p.m. and 3 p.m.

Boys Swimming & Diving Team

by Mike Steineman, Head Coach

The Boys Swimming and Diving Team has reached the midway point of their season. The Raiders closed out 2018 with a home dual meet loss to the Royals of Woodbury on December 22. Over Christmas Break, the team swam 69,400 yards (39.42 miles) in ten days of workouts. That is like swimming from CDH to Red Wing!

We also had two meets during the break. The first was a dual meet loss against the Mustangs of Mounds View on January 3. The Raiders had a few good swims with a very depleted line-up due to illness and holiday travel. The second was at the Maroon and Gold Invite (Tiger Division) at the University of Minnesota's Aquatic Center. This invitational is the largest high school swimming and diving invite in the upper Midwest. CDH had an amazing meet! The Raiders finished in second place behind the Tigers of Farmington.

In the weeks ahead, we will compete at True Team Sections on Saturday, January 19, at South View Middle School. We will close out our home dual meets against the Rangers of Forest Lake at St. Kate's on Tuesday, January 22. That meet will also serve as our Senior Night. Follow us on Twitter @RaidersSwimDive and follow all of the action on the Meet Mobile app on your iPhone or Android device.

Counseling

by Joan O'Connell, College Counselor

On Thursday, January 17, the College Counseling and Advancement offices will team up to coordinate the “Jumpstart Your Future/Alumni Career Day” for our CDH junior students.

This is a required school day that will feature sessions in the morning focused on the college search process. The afternoon will consist of alumni career panels with the opportunity to “meet and greet” CDH alumni during the last class hour of the day.

A corresponding program for parents/guardians of junior students, “College Planning for the Class of 2020,” will be Wednesday, January 23, at 7 p.m.

While parents/guardians who have been through this process before with other children are welcome to attend, this evening is designed for those who are beginning the college search process with their child for the first time. Watch for more information and invitations via email. Post-high school planning meetings with junior families will begin this month. Information and scheduling instructions will be emailed to you.

Class of 2019

Please be sure to let Mrs. Reding in the Counseling Office know if you would like your first trimester grades (mid-year report) sent to colleges where you have applied. You must request this action.

Now that your college applications are submitted, it is time to take care of applying for college financial aid. Be sure that you check with each college you have applied to for deadlines and for required paperwork. Remember that you can search for private scholarships on your Naviance account.

Just a reminder to save all your financial aid awards letters so you have the information for the CDH survey we will send you in May.

JROTC

by LTC Jamie Fischer, SGM David Berrisford, and MSG Ken Peloski

JROTC at CDH is, to say the least, very busy. We have returned from the Christmas Break refreshed and ready to go for 2019.

Our co-curriculars are engaged in many practices during the week to prepare for upcoming activities and to retain a level of sharpness for developing excellence. Our Color Guard, Armed and Unarmed Drill teams will compete in the upcoming Upper Midwest JROTC Challenge (UMJC) that CDH hosts on February 1.

Our Color Guard has been performing at basketball games, wrestling matches, as well as presenting the colors at varsity hockey games on skates.

Flight Club and Orienteering will have events coming up towards the latter part of the trimester. Many cadets have been involved in the fall and early winter activities, and we expect the same level, or higher, of involvement as we move towards the spring.

Air Rifle continues to be booming. There are more than 50 students involved this year, and the new shooters this year are phenomenal. We will be participating in the UMJC air rifle meet, as well as another seven postal competitions through the remainder of the season.

The Honor Guard continues to serve at multiple events both within the CDH community as well as at alumni and external community events. The cadets that participate in the Honor Guard continually represent CDH and JROTC in an exemplary manner.

One of our major upcoming events through the remainder of second trimester is the Upper Midwest JROTC Challenge we will host on February 1. This will be our 29th consecutive time hosting this very popular regional competition. We anticipate as many as 16 schools to compete, bringing in a total of approximately 400 cadets. States represented this year include Illinois, Wisconsin, Iowa, Michigan, and North Dakota.

Our other big event will be the Military Ball, which will be held on Saturday, February 23. Our venue again will be TST/Ideal Hall in St. Paul. This is the most talked about and anticipated event of the year. We expect to reach our capacity this year with 300 people attending.

Seniors should be finishing Senior ROTC applications and Academy nominations. Juniors who are considering military service should be doing their research on which branch, what school, and which major. As always, we are available to answer questions. Come see LTC Fischer at conferences.
