Letter from the Principal - January 2022

January 12, 2022

 Dear students and families,

As we enter 2022, the CDH community continues to mourn the loss of beloved Religion teacher Joe Moss. He was a teacher here for 11 years and continues to be an important member of this community as his loss echoes across our campus. Joe’s death in the week before Christmas break ended the year on a painful note.

And yet, even in these most painful of moments, we are able to experience grace. I saw our students and faculty leaning on one another for support in their grief. I saw young people eloquently expressing their love for a man who taught them not only the foundations of their faith, but how to use those foundations to make life decisions. I saw people turning towards each other, rather than away.

We continue to experience challenges at CDH. The COVID-19 pandemic is ongoing, and our faculty are working hard to provide quality education to students who are quarantining as well as those in the classroom. Events like the father/daughter dance, the military ball, and senior fieldwork have been delayed once again due to the Omicron surge.

However, even in these challenges, we experience grace. I see students who are having fun with their friends even as they continue to face disappointment. I see faculty and staff who come to work every day and share joy and wisdom with their students even though they are exhausted by changing mandates and quarantines. I see parents and guardians showing up for their students’ events and school even amidst their own pandemic fatigue. I see a community seeking out ways to support one another.

I see God’s grace in the moments of beauty amidst hard times. I have faith that 2022 will bring greater joy for all of us!

Sincerely,
Mona Passman, Principal
