Planning for Senior Events

May 5, 2020

There are no words to convey how sad we are that we are facing a global health crisis just as the class of 2020 is preparing to graduate from Cretin-Derham Hall.

We are so very proud of each and every one of our seniors. We are inspired by their resilience and leadership these past few months. They deserve the honor and, frankly, the fun, of the end of senior year. Believe us when we say that we wish we could return to normal. Unfortunately, so much is out of our control.

However, the one thing we can do is to create a sense of those beloved senior celebrations even in these challenging times. Many parents, teachers, and administrators have been working on ways to do this. We strongly considered the feedback we received from seniors and their parents. The most overwhelming sentiment they conveyed is the desire to gather together again as a class. We want that for them, too, and although we can’t promise anything, we will continue to seek ways for the class of 2020 to be together.

We have included an outline of the special events we are planning for just our seniors!  Of course, significantly more detail will be coming in the days ahead, but we want you to know what is ‘in the works.’

A special note on Graduation: we are hopeful that we will hold some variation of a graduation ceremony at the Cathedral in early August. While planning is underway for this, we do not know what will be possible for large gatherings that far away, so we will adjust as needed.

May 18 - Senior yearbook pickup

Seniors will be able to pick up their yearbooks at CDH, without leaving their vehicles. Check your email for more information. Watch this video for a fun preview of this year's book!

May 22 - Last Supper

Teachers and parents will deliver a catered meal to each of our seniors, and students are then invited to tune in to a virtual talent show.

May 26 - Virtual Goodbye with Teachers

From 2-3 pm, teachers will be available for a virtual goodbye, organized by department. Check your email for more information.

May 27 - Cap & Gown Distribution

Seniors will pick up their caps and gowns when they turn in their iPads.

August 2 - Graduation (Tentative)

We are still hopeful that we will be able to hold commencement in person, at the Cathedral, as we have for generations of alumni. We currently have the Cathedral booked for August 2, and will keep you informed of plans for graduation.  Any celebration that involves gathering in person will abide by our commitment to the state's community health guidelines for social distancing and more.  The final details will be communicated closer to the event.
