CDH 1:1 iPad Program

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)

What is the cost of the program?
The $150 technology fee includes use of an iPad 2, device cover, CDH required apps, troubleshooting and repairs (additional fees required for damage due to negligence or intentional mishandling), and use of a loaner device during repairs (subject to availability).

Those choosing to use a personally-owned iPad will be charged a $50 technology fee to cover apps and other program expenses. Note that students are subject to the provisions of the CDH iPad Policy and Acceptable Use Policy regardless of whether they are using a school-owned or personally-owned device. This may limit the apps and material that can be stored on the iPad. The iPad must be available to the student each school day, as well as outside of school hours for homework. CDH staff will provide only very limited basic troubleshooting for personally-owned devices.

Can the iPad be purchased at the end of the school year or after graduation?
No. All iPads must be returned at the end of the school year and cannot be purchased. CDH expects students to use the iPad 2 for the next three years.

I already have an iPad. Can I use it for school?
You can use a personally-owned iPad provided that it is iPad 2 or newer. Please note:
  • You will be charged a technology fee of $50 to cover required apps and other program expenses.
  • You must sign and follow the provisions of the CDH iPad Policy and Acceptable Use Policy. This may limit the apps and material that can be stored on the iPad.
  • The iPad must be available to the student each school day, as well as for homework.
  • CDH staff can provide only very limited basic troubleshooting of personally-owned devices.

Can students purchase and use a different cover than the one provided by the school?
No, students must use the cover provided by CDH with the iPad.

Can students put film screen protectors on the iPad to prevent scratches?

Film protectors can be purchased. They may affect the ability of the touch screen to work efficiently as the student might like.

Can students use a stylus with the iPad?

Students may purchase a stylus if desired.

Will textbooks be loaded on the iPads?
Eventually textbooks will be loaded on the iPads for some classes.

Can students put personal apps and music on the iPads?
iPads are being implemented for educational activities, but it is recognized that students may want to add their own apps, music or games. Contingent on available space on the iPad (CDH-owned or student-owned), students may add their own apps, music, and games by using a personal/family Apple ID account.  All apps, music and games must be consistent with the mission and values of CDH as stated in CDH’s Acceptable Use Policy. This includes music lyrics.  If unacceptable items are installed on the iPad, the device will be restored to its original content/image.  CDH does not accept responsibility for the loss of any apps, music, games, or documents deleted from a student iPad due to a reformat and/or re-image of the iPad.

Note that
students are required to unlock the iPad at the request of any staff member, or parent/guardian.  Parents/guardians are encouraged to regularly check the content of students’ iPads.

The use of personal apps, music, texting and games while at CDH, is up to the classroom teacher, or the personnel supervising a designated area or event.  Violations will be reported to the dean of students.  Teachers may also remove the iPad from student use for their designated class period.

When will the iPads be distributed?

iPads will be distributed the first week of school. A completed iPad agreement is required before a student is issued a CDH iPad, or a student is allowed to use his/her own iPad in school.
