The Class of 2021 went on their annual retreat at Saint Peter's Catholic Church in Mendota on October 12 and 13. Focusing on the first principle of Catholic Social Teaching, “The Dignity of the Human Person,” students participated in prayer, community-building activities, and presentations on respect for oneself and others.
Beautiful and crisp fall weather was enjoyed along with the presence of God who was within and among the students and staff - as well as in the changing of the leaves and cooler autumn winds. After beginning the day with a Mass celebrated by Fr. John Forliti'54, ninth graders formed small groups and discussed the meaning of faith and its relationship to respect.
CDH Link Crew leaders led these discussions. Mr. Aaron Benner, the 9th Grade Dean of Students, and Mrs. Katie Shead, School Counselor, spoke about what respect looks like in relationships, general interactions, and in the choices that are made. The closing of each day included a “campfire” where students could offer thoughts, prayers, and gratitude. Many said they were thankful to be in a community with people who respected and cared for one another.
Truly faith, fellowship, and fun were knitted together by the grace and presence of God. This year’s ninth grade class has begun their CDH faith journey with a 2021 Vision: we are all uniquely created in the image and likeness of God…filled with dignity and worthy of respect.
