Blood Drive Makes a Difference
December 3, 2020
Wednesday, December 2 was the first Student Support Wednesday, which meant that few students were required to be on campus for class. However, dozens of them showed up for another reason - to save a life.
More than 90 people donated. The drive collected 57 units of whole blood and 48 double red units, according to co-chairs Tatum Evans '21 and Alice Spong '21.
The blood drive, in collaboration with Memorial Blood Centers, was held in the Griep Family Gymnasium under strict COVID-19 precautions. With many drives canceled due to the pandemic, the need for blood donations has been high. By donating, our students and community members were able to make a tangible difference in the lives of people in need.
Benjamin Williams '21 gave blood for the second time on Wednesday.
"I love giving blood," he said. "It's like my favorite thing."
Mallory Larson '22 donated for the first time.
"My mom donates blood all the time," she said. "I thought it would be a good way for me to give back too."
