CDH Honors National Hispanic Heritage Month
October 11, 2017
Cretin-Derham Hall held the second annual Hispanic Heritage Month celebration on October 4, 2017. Our guest speaker was Minnesota Senator Meliza Franzen (DFL) from District 49. Franzen was raised in Puerto Rico where she attended Interamerican University of Puerto Rico and graduated in 2001 with a B.A in political science. She later attended the Hubert H. Humphrey School of Public affairs at the University of Minnesota, graduating in 2003 with a M.P.P in economic development and continued at Hamline University School of Law, graduating in 2006 with a J.D. She is the co-founder and president of the public relations firm New Publica, based in Minneapolis.
Maria Isa was the entertainment for the second year in a row. Isa rocked the CDH crowd with her energetic music. Born in Minnesota to NuvoRican parents (New York-Puerto Ricans), Isa is a singer, songwriter, emcee, instructor, and performing artist. Isa and her husband were married in Puerto Rico this summer.
Our Spanish teachers, Tommy Murray'97, Patty Murray, Lourdes Wadell, Becki Medellin'88, Cait Heinz'05, Suzanne Engel Zobitz'80, and Montse Lavelle were honored and recognized for their work.
Thank you to Francel Colon-Acosta'18, Gigi Centento'18, Mr. Aaron Benner, and Ms. Katie Shead for their hard work preparing this celebration.
