CDH Welcomes Frank Miley as President
July 21, 2015
Cretin-Derham Hall Welcomes our new President
Francis M. Miley, J.D.
Francis M. Miley, J.D. assumed the duties of President of Cretin-Derham Hall on July 1, 2015, upon the retirement of Richard Engler. He brings a tremendous commitment for continuing the rich legacy of the Christian Brothers and the Sisters of St. Joseph of Carondelet while assuring a strong future founded in academic excellence and Lasallian values. A community celebration of his installation will be held early Fall once students are in class.
As president, Miley is committed to focusing on the uniquely transformative impact a Catholic high school can have on each and every student’s life. “Our Catholic tradition compels us to foster the moral and spiritual development of our students, educating the whole person so that we all might become whole and thus, holy, as God intends for us. Every student must encounter the ultimate question of life: Who am I and what is God calling me to do with my life? CDH students will leave our school knowing that true success demands that we grapple with why we exist and how we relate to others and God.”
This past year of transition planning has been a strategic effort between Engler and Miley to ensure smooth operations going forward, as well as establishing strategic priorities for the next year. Miley has also met with faculty and staff individually to understand their hopes, dreams and concerns about the future of CDH. In the quest for continued excellence, he is committed to working with the faculty and staff to remain faithful to our indicators of excellence through the seven values of CDH: Catholic, Academic, Leadership, Service, Diversity, Equity and Community.
Serving Cretin-Derham Hall as Executive Vice President of Development, Miley successfully lead the “Lord, the Work is Yours!” Endowment Campaign, which was designed to be a critical element of the 20-year financial plan for CDH.
“Our 20-year plan is the envy of schools throughout our region,” noted Miley. We are strategically positioned to control tuition costs while offering considerably more financial assistance to those families who need it.” Miley is quick to point out that the ability of the Cretin-Derham Hall community to establish this level of a financial endowment is a humble expression of gratitude for the collaboration of the Sisters of St. Joseph and the Christian Brothers who dedicate their lives to Catholic education.
In fact, the role of his Catholic faith has been a tremendous influence in both Miley’s life and career. He studied for a short time in the minor seminary and as a Jesuit novice. His early career was in education and campus ministry. In addition to being an attorney, he has served as Development Director, School Vice President and President in other local Catholic secondary schools. “The Lasallian mission and that of the Sisters of St. Joseph help me to express my faith in my work, which is a tremendous gift.”
We proudly welcome Frank Miley as President of Cretin-Derham Hall.
