Grandparents Mass Welcomes Over 700 Guests
May 6, 2025
Cretin-Derham Hall welcomed over 700 guests to our annual Grandparent Mass on May 1, 2025. The Mass was held in the Field House and officiated by longtime CDH friend and celebrant Father Pat Kennedy ‘69.
This year’s theme, drawn from Paul’s letter to the Corinthians - “Love Never Fails” - set the tone for a morning filled with reflection, gratitude, and connection across generations.
The Mass featured thoughtful reflections from students Tank Edwards ’25, Michael Nobrega ’25, and Amelia Olin ’25, who each shared heartfelt messages about the impact their grandparents have had on their lives. Their words resonated with the crowd.
A special highlight of the Mass was Fr. Kennedy’s homily, which many in attendance described as one of his finest. Blending humor, warmth, and wisdom, he reminded the community of the enduring power of love that grandparents exemplify through their steady presence and support.
"Having over 700 people gathered together, sharing in this moment of love and faith, was a true testament to the strength of our CDH family," said Mark McGuire of Campus Ministry. “The student reflections were especially moving and reminded us all of the importance of honoring the people who have helped shape our lives.”
Following the liturgy, guests were invited to a short reception with refreshments, graciously hosted by the Parents’ Association - a nice way to conclude one of CDH’s most cherished traditions.
