Boys Lacrosse
by Matt Hourigan, Head Boys Lacrosse Coach
The boys lacrosse season has gotten off to a great start. There are 68 student athletes competing this year on the Varsity, JV, and B-Squad teams!
As of May 5 the Varsity squad has a record of 4-3, highlighted by a strong 11-7 win versus Suburban East Conference foe Stillwater and a signature 14-12 victory over perennial rival St. Thomas Academy. The team is led by senior captains Jack English (15 g, 3 a), Alex Budka (15 groundballs, 18 takeways), Eddie Gaertner (63 saves), and Jack Galle (18 g, 12 a). Galle was also honored as a nominee for Star Tribune Boys Lacrosse Player of the Week for April 24 – 29.
Girls Lacrosse
by Joe Moss, Head Girls Lacrosse Coach
The girls lacrosse team created some buzz in the pre-season, being named as a top team to watch by the Star Tribune's Lacrosse Hub. The season opened with a 15-5 win over Wayzata. The Raiders then faced the #2 and #3 teams in the state (Blake and Stillwater, respectively), dropping both contests by 1 point. Thanks to the strong showing against two top-tier teams, the Minnesota Lacrosse Coaches Association moved the previously unranked Raiders up to #9 in last week's poll. Since then, the Raiders have defeated Park of Cottage Grove and Woodbury to accumulate a 3-2 record.

Trap Shooting Team
by Dave Becker, Coach
The CDH Trap Shooting Team needs to change it's name! This year the team is not only shootingTrap, but is now shooting Skeet and Sporting Clays as well. These new disciplines give shooters a much broader and well-rounded shooting experience. Skeet is much more challenging than Trap with the addition of shooting doubles and crossing shots. Sporting Clays is designed to simulate hunting conditions and the course is like a walk in the woods. The shooters have responded with excitement and are enjoying the variety. Junior Dylan Jacobson and Sophomore Lucas Jandrich already have shot perfect scores of 25 in Trap, so the team is improving every time out.

Guidance - from the College Counselors
by Joan O'Connell, College Counselor
The CDH Education Fair was held Monday, April 24 for junior students and their families. We hosted over 100 colleges and universities that evening. Students found it to be a convenient way to make contact with admissions representatives and get their questions answered. A special thanks to the Post-Secondary Parent Committee for hosting a dinner for admissions representatives prior to the event!
Attention Juniors
- Be sure to check your CDH Naviance account for information about the college search process. Remember to take the online career inventories by clicking on “So What You Are” and “Career Interest Profiler” for some additional career possibilities!
- The registration deadline for the June 10 ACT test was May 5. Late registration (with additional fees) will be accepted until May 17, 2017. Register online at www.actstudent.org.
- The dates for the Minnesota Private College Week this year are June 26– 30, 2017. All of the private colleges in Minnesota welcome prospective students and their parents to campus during this week, both in morning and afternoon sessions. Iowa and Wisconsin’s private colleges will host similar visiting weeks this summer. The Wisconsin Private College Week will be held July 10 – 15, 2017 and the Iowa Private College Week will be held July 31 – August 4, 2017. Call colleges or go online in advance to let them know you would like to attend.
- The University of Minnesota System is hosting a visit week this summer, Meet Minnesota from June 19 to June 23, 2017.
Attention Seniors
- Colleges will be sending you important information on housing, registration, and orientation. BE SURE TO READ & RESPOND TO YOUR MAIL!!
- A reminder that ALL colleges require a final transcript of your high school grades as a condition of enrollment so be sure to continue to do your best work! Major schedule changes or an obvious drop in grades senior year can have consequences including the loss of merit scholarships and/or your spot in the incoming class.
- It is contrary to the "Statement of Principles of Good Practice" of the National Association for College Admissions Counseling for students to make multiple college enrollment deposits. CDH will send only one final transcript in June. Consult with your counselor if you need help making your decision as the consequences of “multiple depositing” can include rescinding offers of admission.
- Graduates in the Class of 2017 who have paid for PACC (Program for Advanced College Credit) credits from St. Mary’s University of Minnesota and who want to get college credits for these courses must have a transcript sent from St. Mary’s to the college or university where the student will attend this fall. That school can then determine whether or not they will award college credit for this work in high school. To request an official St. Mary’s transcript, visit the website at www.smumn.edu and search for PACC to be directed to the appropriate webpage for a transcript request. Questions? Call St. Mary’s at 1-800-635-5987 ext. 1501.
- If you took CIS (College in the Schools) Classes at CDH through the University of Minnesota and want these classes to be considered for college credit at the school you will attend next fall you will need to request an official University of MN transcript. Go to www.onestop.umn.edu and click “Grades & Transcripts” to request your transcript.
- To send your AP scores to your college, go to https://apscore.collegeboard.org and follow instructions. Scores for tests taken in May of 2017 will be available in July.
- Graduating seniors who are planning to attend state colleges and universities in Wisconsin must file a “Tuition Reciprocity Application” with the Minnesota Higher Education Services Office in order to receive tuition reciprocity. Applications for the 2017-2018 academic year are available online at www.getreadyforcollege.org. This application must be filed and approved before a student can register for classes at the reduced tuition rate - so don’t delay. If you are attending a public university in North or South Dakota, you arrange for reciprocity through the school you will attend.
- Remember that CDH teachers write hundreds of letters of recommendation for students as they apply to colleges and universities - over and above all the other responsibilities they have as classroom teachers and coaches. Be sure to let your recommenders know where you have decided to attend college in the fall and please take a minute to thank them for this very important work that they do on your behalf.
JROTC Corps of Cadets
by David Berrisford, Sergeants Major, U.S. Army, Retired
On April 21, 36 cadets and the instructors traveled to the Boy Scouts Base Camp at Ft. Snelling, MN to do some team building and adventure training. We participated in some problem solving games, archery, a high ropes course to build confidence and a low ropes course to have fun and develop balance. We had a wonderful time and had a group meal during a break.
Co-curriculars continue to meet in the morning to increase participation among our busy students.
Our Armed Precision Drill team is tossing its rifles higher and higher as it prepares for the Twilight Parade on May 10. This year we will say goodbye to captains Seniors Eli Andrzejek and Frank Kimlinger as they graduate. Next year’s captains are Junior Johnathan Koop and Sophomore Mary Andrzejek.
Our Regulation Drill Team has ended its season as well. Our captain, Senior Allison Rudolph led the team to a very strong season showing. The team next year will be led by Junior Leland Pornschloegl and Jack Rymanowski. They will be working towards qualifying for the team to attend the national championships next year.
The Rifle Teams season has now ended. It was a grand success and we have many athletes continuing on for next year as a part of the team. Our outgoing captains, Seniors Jack Calkins and Riley Domler, did a wonderful job leading and inspiring the team and we will miss their leadership as they go on to college. Our captain for next year will be junior Isaac Yahn.
Our Honor Guard has been extremely busy this year and will be busy throughout the remainder of the school year and summer. We continue to assist families at wakes and funerals and serve at open houses and concerts. We will again help at the Baccalaureate Mass and the Graduation Ceremony on May 31. Our entire corps thanks our outgoing captains, Seniors Josh Goldberg, Elizabeth Hingsberger, and Frank Kimlinger. These three fine cadets coordinated the volunteers and made the honor guard successful over their senior year. We are excited for the new captains next year; Junior Joseph Seifert and Sophomore Rory King. These two cadets have a wonderful rapport with their peers and I know they will continue the tradition of the honor guard answering the call for service.
Our Orienteering Team competed on April 29 at Interstate Park in St. Croix Falls, WI. This was a very challenging course and all twelve that competed did great. Our final meet is on May 13. This year we say goodbye to captain Jack Spencer and seniors Karl Jaschke and Allison Rudolph. Next year’s captain will be Drew Kampmeier. Come join us there!
Our Color Guard will present the colors on Memorial Day this year at Elmhurst Cemetery at 9:30 am. We will also have Ninth Grader Ryan Auran and Junior Patrick Hahn playing "Echo Taps". This is a tradition CDH has had for many years and we are proud to help recognize the sacrifices service members have made for our country. We say goodbye to our captain, Senior Walter Cleveland. He has done a good job coordinating the color guards. We welcome as the new captain, Junior Michael Burke.
The Flight Club will head to the Air National Guard Museum to see classic jets on May 11. This will be their final event for the school year. Outgoing captain, Senior Marquez Thompson, has had an enthusiasm for aircraft and flying throughout his high school journey. He will be studying aerospace science and flying in college.
We continue to receive results of the process for ROTC scholarships and Academy appointments. We will recognize those winners at the Twilight Parade, a homeroom assembly in May, and in our next Communicator.
Theater
by Katie Kreitzer, Theater Director
Thank you to all who attended our spring musical, In the Heights. Audiences enthusiastically supported the production. Positive responses pertaining to the ease in which the singers tackled the difficult music, the depth of character work from the actors, and the execution of the orchestration by the pit band were numerous. The creative team truly appreciates your kind words of support. Overall, we think In The Heights reached some pretty big heights.
Next up, the 24 Hour Create-A-Play performances will happen on Saturday, May 20 at 7:00 pm. Admission is $5. If you have never attended the 24 Hour Create-A-Play, you should mark your calendars for this fun, student-centered theater activity. CDH students will write, direct, technical direct, and act in six short plays -- all within 24 Hours.
