Hispanic Heritage Comes to Life at CDH

October 6, 2025

On Monday, October 6, students, faculty, and guests gathered for a Hispanic Heritage Cultural Celebration. The event was a tribute to the rich traditions and diverse contributions of Hispanic communities - brought to life through music, dance, and student voice.

The celebration kicked off with a performance by the Chico Chavez Orchestra, a high-energy Twin Cities ensemble led by world-renowned percussionist Chico Chavez. Their signature sound, infused with tropical grooves and global rhythms, had the audience clapping and dancing.

Adding to the cultural richness of the event were the performances by Los Alegres Bailadores, a renowned dance group that has shared traditional Mexican folkloric dance across Minnesota for more than 45 years. Their performances showcased the traditions they’ve worked passionately to preserve. The dancers captured the spirit and storytelling of Mexican heritage.

Student voices also took center stage, with reflections shared by Kaylee Perla '26 and Jaziel Olvera '26. Their words added a personal meaning to the celebration as they talked about the importance of cultural identity, pride, and the value of representation in the school community.
