Homecoming Mass Celebrates Community and Belonging - with a Little Homecoming Fun
September 18, 2025
Homecoming Week is always packed - between themed dress-up days, sports events, and school spirit, students have plenty on their plates. But right in the middle of it all, the Homecoming Mass offers a meaningful pause - and a chance to come together as a school community.
This year’s Mass was officiated by Father Pat Kennedy ’69 and centered around the Campus Ministry theme for the month: Life and Dignity of the Human Person.
Principal Mona Passman and Brother Michael Phipps added a personal touch to the message.
Passman led the Call to Prayer by talking about the importance of having a home - a place where you feel like you truly belong. Br. Phipps built on that, reflecting on how home is where you find love, acceptance, and the freedom to be yourself. He tied it all back to his own calling as a Christian Brother, showing how "home" can mean more than just a place - it's also a purpose.
Of course, it wouldn’t be a school Mass without standout student participation. Special shoutout to the music ministers: Bridget Bower '26, Jennifer Cooper '29, Rhema Edomaruseh '27, Amya Mercado '29, Kaylee Munson '29, Evan Thompson '29, and Lucas Roberto '26. Their performances added energy and heart - especially during the moment when students broke into a mini “conga” line while Mr. Steven Tacheny and Lucas Roberto played the song Home.
“I always love when students start a little ‘conga’ line during that song,” said Campus Minister and Religion teacher Mark McGuire. “It’s a fun reminder that joy and community belong at the center of our faith.”
Even during one of the busiest weeks of the school year, the Homecoming Mass reminds everyone why this community works: it’s welcoming, it’s real, and it knows how to mix meaning with a little fun.
