November 12, 2018
Principal Mona Passman announced today that senior Theodore Turner Hoover has been named a Commended Student in the 2019 National Merit Scholarship Program.
About 34,000 Commended Students throughout the nation are recognized for their exceptional academic promise. Placing in the top 5% nationally, commended students will not continue in the 2019 competition for National Merit Scholarship awards, but are placed among the top 50,000 scores of more than 1.6 million students who entered the 2019 competition by taking the 2017 Preliminary SAT/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test.
"The young men and women being named 'Commended Students' have demonstrated outstanding potential for academic success," commented a spokesperson for the National Merit Scholarship Corporation (NMSC).
“Theodore is an exceptionally well-rounded student," said Passman. "He is a member of the JROTC Corps of Cadets, an AP Scholar, and competes on the Wrestling and Math teams. We are very proud of Theodore."
