Johnston Wins Triple Threat Musical Competition

Congratulations to CDH junior Jack Johnston who has won the Triple Threat (Singing, Acting, Dancing) Musical Theater competition sponsored by the Hennepin Theater Trust Spotlight Program.

Earlier this spring, Johnston was recognized with an Outstanding Actor Award from the Spotlight Program for his portrayal of the character Corny Collins in the Theater Department’s production of Hairspray. He then submitted a portfolio of his work for Triple Threat consideration. In May, he was chosen as one of 20 finalists. Then, on Sunday, June 14, 2015, at the State Theater, Johnston was selected as the winner of the competition.

Johnston has earned an all-expenses paid trip to New York City where he will participate in singing and dancing workshops and meet with industry professionals about the entertainment business. He will also attend several Broadway shows and meet with SpotLight spokesperson, Minnesota native and award-winning Broadway performer Laura Osnes, herself a Spotlight winner.
