Leif Skally '24 is an Eagle Scout
April 14, 2021
Leif Skally '24 recently earned his Eagle ranking, the highest achievement rank in Scouting. To earn the ranking, Scouts need to complete a project that benefits the community. Skally chose to improve rooms in the basement of Holy Spirit Church.
"The rooms were in rough shape," he said. "I wanted to help my community out, specifically by cleaning up the meeting rooms used by scouts and other church groups."
He had help from his family and friends in completing the project, and had to learn how to manage a team and maintain a safe environment. He used a virtual sign-up form in order to maintain physical distancing between volunteers.
"I learned how to teach people skills in different ways," Skally explained. "For younger kids, I used different methods of showing them how to do things than when I was demonstrating to adults. I also learned how to adapt based on situations changing. One example of this is that we had to do a couple of different methods when painting along the edges of the wood to make it look good."
As a Scout, Skally has had the opportunity to learn many skills over the years. He looks back on his time in Scouting with fondness.
