Leon Xiong Wins Hmong New Year Essay Contest
December 17, 2018
Stacy Xiong, mother of Leon Xiong '19, did not know her son had entered an essay contest. So it came as quite the surprise when she learned that Leon had won the very first essay contest at the 40th Hmong New Year celebration in November.
The contest's theme, "Passing the Torch," invited writers to celebrate the past, present, and future of the Hmong community.
Xiong, as the winner, was invited to read his essay in front of thousands of Hmong who gathered to celebrate the New Year at St. Paul RiverCentre.
