Much More Than a Game: Faith and Football
September 8, 2017
History was made on August 31 as the Cretin-Derham Hall football team took the field at O'Shaughnessy Stadium at the University of St. Thomas for the first time this season. The long- awaited match up between two Lasallian high schools, Cretin-Derham Hall and Totino-Grace, started with a powerful moment.
Before kickoff, Father John Forliti, former CDH chaplain, led both teams and the fans in prayer to remember their schools' founders and their shared mission of faith in education. The Catholic Spirit was present to capture this moment between both schools.
In a recent article, released by the Catholic Spirit, the article quoted Brother Robert Smith, FSC, "The coaches “are as committed to the mission of the school…and the building of young men…as wins and losses. I think it reaffirms the school’s mission and its foundation and that it exists to help develop young men into young adults of Christian values and commitment and work ethics.”
