Created in the Image of God: Respecting Oneself and Others
The Class of 2020 retreats were held the first week in October at Saint Peter’s Catholic Church in Mendota. Focusing on the first principle of Catholic Social Teaching, “The Dignity of the Human Person,” students participated in prayer, community-building activities and presentations on respect for oneself and others. Beautiful and crisp fall weather was enjoyed as the presence of God was within and among the students and staff, as well as in the changing of the leaves and cooler autumn winds. Ninth graders also discussed the meaning of faith and its relationship to respect in small groups.
CDH Link Crew leaders led these discussions: Mr. Aaron Benner (Dean), Mrs. Katie Shead (Counseling) and Mr. Joe Miley (Learning Lab) spoke about what respect looks like in relationships and in the choices that are made. The closing of each day included a “campfire” where students could offer thoughts, prayers and gratitude. Many said they were thankful to be in a community with people who respected and cared for one another. Truly faith, fellowship and fun were knitted together by the grace and presence of God.
This year’s ninth grade class has begun their CDH faith journey with 2020 Vision: we are all uniquely created in the image and likeness of God…filled with dignity and worthy of respect.
