Psych Students Explore Their Senses
January 8, 2020
Students in Ms. Tracy Stepka's psychology course are entering the sensation and perception unit, which is important unit to understand how we interact with our environment, and how people see the world differently. To begin, they took a seven-minute blindfolded walk around CDH.
The blind sensory walk is designed to get students thinking about their senses and sensation on a deeper level. Since our sense of sight is usually our most relied upon sense, this walk allows them to use their other senses in ways they normally wouldn’t. The goal of the walk is for the student to attempt to determine where they are in the building without using their sense of sight.
Once the walk was over the class discussed what sensations they noticed, and how they used their senses differently since they were not allowed to rely on their eyes.
"I believe this experiment is a great way to get students involved with the material, and creates a deeper level of learning," Stepka said.
