Raiders Clean Up the Neighborhood
November 13, 2019
Every year, our sports teams come together to make a difference for the neighborhood surrounding Cretin-Derham Hall. They spend a few hours on a Saturday morning raking leaves and cleaning up yards for our neighbors.
On November 2, more than 100 student-athletes and coaches raked about 65 lawns!
One woman passing by was so impressed by our students that she wrote in to the Pioneer Press:
"Doing some errands on a recent Saturday morning near the Cretin-Derham Hall High School campus, I saw quite a number of young people who were raking leaves energetically in the yards of homes near the school.
When I stopped at one of the homes where young people were hard at work, I inquired about their activity. One student replied that they were students from Cretin-Derham (Hall) and responding to neighbors’ requests for assistance with raking and disposing of fall leaves. The student told me that I could request the same service by phoning the school.
I would like to saint those young people from Cretin-Derham Hall High School who gave up their Saturday morning activities (maybe including a couple of extra hours of sleep) to assist residents near their school in preparing their homes for winter.
It appeared they were turning work into fun and being good neighbors in the community.
Thanks to all those young people who gave up their Saturday mornings and serve as examples for doing a good deed in their community.
To all those young people who participated in this fall clean-up, please keep up the great work for our community and realize that your efforts are appreciated not only by the homeowners, but also others of us in the neighborhood. Thank you."
