Sam Floysand '21 Signs to Air Force Academy
December 17, 2020
Sam Floysand '21 has committed to attend the Air Force Academy and play football.
He has participated in JRTOC through his time at Cretin-Derham Hall, and is eager to continue serving his country.
"Attending the Air Force Academy means I can pair high-level football with one of the best degrees in the country," he said.
He has excelled on the field as well.
"As a player, Sam brings a blend of strength, agility, and toughness to that table that doesn’t come around very often," said Head Coach Chuck Miesbauer '03. "He can out-muscle guys when necessary and he can use his quick feet to beat a guy to a spot. Most importantly, he has a high football IQ and knows when to use strength and when to be quick."
Most importantly, Floysand has a strong commitment to doing good.
"What makes Sam stand out in our community is what he does without standing out," Miesbauer said. "Last fall, an elderly woman in the community reached out to me to see if we would be able to help her with her shoveling needs for the winter. If it snowed on a Friday and I messaged the team to shovel on Saturday morning, Sam was always the first to respond even though he had to drive from Cottage Grove to do so. Most people probably don’t know that and Sam would probably prefer to keep it that way. Sam understands true service isn’t accompanied by recognition."
Floysand's signing ceremony was held via Zoom and can be watched here.
