Spanish Honor Students Create Personal Cajas de Memoria
November 6, 2018
CDH Spanish 403H students have been studying Día de los Muertos, a celebration of life for those who have died.
Día de los Muertos festivities unfold over two days in an explosion of color and life-affirming joy. The theme is death, but the purpose is to celebrate and show love and respect for deceased family members.
Students have spent the past two weeks creating their own Cajas de Memoria (Memory Box) as an ofrenda (offering) for a loved one or someone whom they respect. Not only did each student create a box, but they also told a personal story as a way to honor and remember their person. These boxes are currently on display in the LLC.
