ROTC Scholarships & Service Academy Appointments

Every year, several CDH students volunteer to serve their country by joining the military. Some enlist to serve on Active-Duty, in the National Guard, or the Reserves. Some seek full tuition ROTC scholarships at colleges - both locally and across the country. And some students go the route of obtaining a Congressional nomination and appointment to one of our Nation’s service academies. These include the Army at West Point, Navy at Annapolis, Air Force in Colorado Springs, or the Coast Guard in New London.

Andrew Ek '25: Andrew received not one, but two college ROTC Scholarships to the school of his choice - a 4-year Naval ROTC Scholarship and a 3-year Army ROTC scholarship.

Jeremiah Thom '25: There are currently 5 CDH graduates at our Nation’s Service Academies where students are obtaining a first rate education while training to protect and defend the United States of America. This year we are proud to announce that one Class of 2025 CDH student, Jeremiah Thom, has achieved this accomplishment.

She has also committed to play college lacrosse at Niagara University.

Excellence in Fine Arts

This award was established to honor seniors who have done extensive and excellent work across several Fine Arts disciplines. This year, two students will be honored for their deserving contributions and excellence in Fine Arts.

Delvin Tacheny '25: Delvin is intuitively compassionate and generous with his creative expressions. He has participated in the Memory Project 8 times in the past four years by creating beautiful portraits as gifts for young children from all around the world.

Delvin has had a keen eye for composition and photography even before entering CDH. He has had photos accepted at the State Fair, and has excelled in photography class with fantastic shots that separated him from the pack.

Delvin wandered into the ceramics studio 3rd trimester of his sophomore year. It became immediately evident that he had found space to be creative at CDH. What began as intrigue became a full-blown ceramics obsession as his motivation for mastery in pottery has resulted in hundreds of thrown pieces that he simply slices in half to “check his consistency”.

He makes art to understand, self-critique, to get better and make beautiful things. Delvin’s gift in visual art developed while in high school, but he has been a musician since the age of 4. He practices the violin every day for at least an hour and has since he was a young child. He obliges the CDH music ministry department with his performances during school prayer services and masses.  Delvin’s approach to music and art in the same inspiring fashion as he does most things in life, with imagination and determination.

Miq Omosowon '25: Miq has been a staple of the arts programs at Cretin-Derham Hall in recent years. She is a leader in the Choir and A Cappella Club, and seeks opportunities to grow as a musician outside of school as well through local and regional honor choirs and workshops. She lifts up these ensembles both in terms of contributing high-level musicianship in pursuit of excellence, but also in terms of being a consistent morale-booster, full of ideas to promote the growth and quality of the program. The same can be said of her active participation in theater; whether she is in a leading role, the ensemble, or in the off-stage crew, she works hard and contributes to a positive creative environment. Miq is highly revered by her peers and holds those around her to be the best versions of themselves. In addition to her talents as a performer, she has also shown excellence in the visual arts: Miq has been a constant creative mind in Photography, as well as Jewelry Making and never ceases to amaze.
