Students Dig in to History Day Topics
February 21, 2019
Each year, CDH sophomores participate in History Day, a national program where students dig in to a single topic and present a research project.
While the students have been practicing the skills they needed since school started in September, they really focused on their projects this trimester. They were required to pick a topic that fit within the theme "Triumph and Tragedy," and students chose topics as varied as Rosie the Riveter, the polio vaccine, and the Banana Massacre.
Over the course of the trimester, students researched their topic and prepared a final presentation, which could come in the form of a research paper, poster board, documentary, website, or performance.
"History Day really combines all of the skills that we want them to learn in American History," said Kevin Flynn, Social Studies teacher. "It combines effective research, evaluating primary and secondary sources, organization, and presenting their research."
This year, seven CDH students earned awards at the State competition.
