VFW Baseball
The Hamline Purple American Legion advanced to the State Tournament which began on Friday August 1st at 1:15 PM at Alimagnet Park in Burnsville. Hamline Purple advanced through sub-state 7 as the #5 seed beating #4 seed West Saint Paul Challenger, #1 North St. Paul and #2 Fridley. The team had a 15-10 overall record into the tournament against Hutchinson, Minnesota. The team lost in one of the initial games of the state tournament.
The 2014 VFW baseball team finished the regular season 14 and 4 with a 3 way tie for second. The team went undefeated in the playoff’s (6 and 0) outscoring their opponents 52 to 15. The championship game was the most exciting game of the playoffs. The team was down 6 to 2 in the 5th and 6 to 5 and the 7th. The team scored 2 runs in the bottom of the second with 2 out and 2 strikes on the last 2 batters against the number one team lake Elmo VFW. The VFW team advanced to the state tournament after winning playoffs.
The 2014 Cretin-Derham Hall VFW baseball team entered the State Tournament on August 8th as winners of the District 4 Section Tournament. We won all 5 games going undefeated in the State Tournament outscoring our opponents 27 to 6. It was a total team effort, good pitching, solid defense and timely hitting. We won 8 to 1 over Becker, 6 to 0 over Bemidji, 6 to 1 over Alexandria, 5 to 0 over Grand Rapids and then beat Grand Rapids again in the Finals 2 to 1. The final game was definitely the best game of the tournament. Both teams made incredible plays in the field and people from both sides were sitting on the edge of their seats. Our closer started the 7th and struck out the side to end the game.

Highland U16 Softball
The Highland 16U Softball Team finished 3rd in state advancing to regionals in Arden Hills, MN. At Regionals the team finished 8th out of 56 teams in the Upper Midwest. The players on the team were Abby Kimlinger, Miranda Mader, Katie Bohland, Courtney Sundberg, Maureen Tschida, Jackie Blake, Jackie Radfors, Crissy Walsh, Athena Garcia, Laci Petronack, Molly Buelow (HP) and Molly McMahon (HP).
Boys Basketball
Boys Basketball placed 2nd at the Pacesetter Sweet 16 invitational tournament. Three players stand out as top performers over the summer. Donnell Gresham, Sam Neumann and Joe Rosga had outstanding summers.
Lacrosse
Girls Lacrosse team traveled to Naperville, Illinois, for the Indian Prairie Showdown July 25-27. In the HS U19 division bracket the team placed #1 with a 6-0 record. The team had 14 CDH players on the team and a few others from metro area schools. Members of the team are Mac Molnar, Elizabeth Dolinsky, Ellie Crawford, Josie Allaire, Katie Buckingham, Bree Osbourne, Shaela Osbourne, Maria Zesbaugh, Megan Eckstrand, Mariah Krey, Andrea Ayala, Caleigh Tschida, and Nicki Sobaski.
Powerlifting
Tristan Anderson competed at the USPA (United States Powerlifting Association) National Championships in Las Vegas last week and set 2 new records. He set a USPA World record in the squat by squatting 600.7 lbs and he set an American record in the deadlift by lifting 512.6 lbs. He has qualified for the World Championships in November and will be heading back to Las Vegas to compete.
Rowing
Senior Daniel Holod and his doubles partner rowed 5 races in Hamburg and performed well, coming in 17th out of more than 30 international teams. (Germany won the gold). Daniel is now at Cornell University in Ithaca, NY and will row for the Big Red, Cornell's Rowing team.
Equestrian competition
Nora Shaffer a CDH sophomore has been riding, training and competing with her horses in Equestrian sports since the age of nine. All of her hard work paid off. This past summer after many local, regional wins she topped off the show season by winning 3 national championships.
