Boys Basketball Takes State for First Time in 25 Years

March 28, 2018

Boys Basketball Take State!

The Boys Basketball team won the AAAA State Tournament. This is the first title for the program since 1993. Senior Daniel Oturu, heading to the University of Minnesota this fall, dunked the winning basket with less than one second on the clock, defeating Apple Valley by a score of 79-78. The unbelievable game-ending play was featured on ESPN Sports Center as a top ten video of the day on March 24.

Oturu was a finalist for the Mr. Basketball Award. Seniors Sy Chatman, Ryan Larson, and Jacob Prince were named to the Wells Fargo All-Tournament team. Coach Jerry Kline, Jr. was selected as the 2017-18 MBCA Section 4AAAA Coach of the Year. Coach Kline, CDH Class of 1993, was a member of the last Raiders basketball team to win a state title (under Coach Horyza). He is one of only two Minnesota men to win a state basketball title as a player and a coach.

Raiders Finish Winter Season Strong

The Girls Basketball team had a tremendous season that ended with them hoisting the AAAA State consolation trophy.

The Boys Swim/Dive team placed second in sections and advanced five swimmers (plus three alternatives) to the State Tournament. With a team GPA of 3.73, the team was named the Section 6AA Academic Champions.

Five members of the Wrestling team finished in the top ten of the individual section tournament. The squad was recognized for the fifth consecutive year with an All-State Gold Academic Award. The top ten wrestlers on the team had an un-weighted, composite grade point average of 3.70.

The Girls (12-11-2) and Boys (20-4-2) Hockey teams both made it through to the 6AA section semifinal game. Junior Danny Magnuson was named the Conference Defenseman of the Year.

Congratulations to all our Raider student-athletes for their champion mindset! Go Raiders!
