CDH Plans for 2020-21

June 19, 2020

Dear students and families,

We congratulate all of you - students and families - for your support and engagement in distance learning since March. Whether you are an incoming 9th grader or a returning Raider, each of us certainly ended this past school year in the shadow of COVID-19, changing so much of our day-to-day experience in school. Despite the difficulties, it must be celebrated that our students and teachers worked so very hard to maintain a strong learning environment and a sense of community with great success given the unprecedented situation.  Not being together was difficult for all of us, but because of your dedication, we did it with a high level of excellence and we learned a lot in the process.

Let’s switch gears to our upcoming school year.

Cretin-Derham Hall is excited to welcome all students and teachers back on campus for the 2020/2021 school year.

We will be prepared to begin the school year by reopening campus with important precautions or modifications to ensure health and safety. Be assured that CDH will continue to follow guidelines and restrictions recommended by the state and local experts, and will also be prepared to pivot to online learning if required.

Because the safety, health, and well-being of our students and employees, as well as their families, is our top concern, CDH is implementing safety and health protocols that are designed to mitigate the risk of the spread of COVID-19 and to keep our community as safe as possible.  We will continue to assess the learning environment so that we engage in best practices for the delivery of curriculum under new considerations for community health, especially because of COVID-19.

To that end, CDH is developing a comprehensive plan including protocols for the safe resumption of classes on campus. These plans are being developed by CDH administrators, teachers, and staff and will include input from our constituents.

Our primary focus is on, but not limited to:

  1. Health and Safety Procedures (cleaning, arrival/dismissal, passing time, hygiene, food service, temperature checks, and health questionnaires etc.)

  2. Schedule Options (full-day, hybrid options to include staggered on-campus attendance, and online learning if it becomes necessary)

  3. Social Distancing and Space Considerations (classrooms, common spaces, hallways, locker rooms, restrooms, and other spaces)

  4. Instructional Methods, Procedures, Technology, and Training

  5. Activities, Athletics, Social Opportunities, Prayer, Liturgy, and Community Building

  6. Personnel Health and Training (policies)

We will provide specific plans with more detail in July. In the meantime, enjoy the well-deserved summer break. Stay safe and healthy, CDH!

Sincerely,
