Celebrating the Vibrant Culture of Native Americans
November 13, 2024
In honor of Native American Heritage Month, Cretin-Derham Hall hosted a celebration on November 13. The event provided a unique opportunity for students, faculty, and staff to deepen their understanding and appreciation of Native American history, traditions, and contributions.
The celebration included a student reflection by Gino Charging Bear '27, introduced by his father, highlighting the importance of Native American history and family. The Imnizaska Drum Group performed traditional Native powwow music that included drums and vocals.
Ron Kanutski, a storyteller and comedian from the Chippewa Nation, engaged the audience with humor, music and stories that offered insights into the Chippewa perspective. His storytelling served as both entertainment and a way to promote cultural awareness.
This celebration was a reminder of CDH’s commitment to diversity and the value of learning from the many cultures that shape our community.
