Letter from the Principal - December 2023

December 13, 2023

Dear Parents and Guardians,

Happy December, and blessings to you during this Advent season. So many of us use this time of Advent in preparation for the Christmas holiday rather than a time of hopeful prayer and reflection in preparation for the birth of our Savior. We lead busy lives. We have many plans and things to do before our Christmas celebrations.

I invite you to create one simple and peaceful moment in your day to experience Advent. I find peace in my holiday lights and the candles on the Advent wreath. Sitting in darkness surrounded by the Christmas tree lights and lighting the candles on the Advent wreath provides a peaceful environment for prayer. I also love to walk by some of the outdoor light displays in my neighborhood and town, including at St. Catherine’s University.

As you find time for prayer and reflection, remember those in our community who have lost loved ones during the past several months. They will be experiencing Advent, Christmas, and the holiday season for the first time without them.

Members of this school community have many reasons to be joyous and celebrate. The CDH community is vibrant and thriving. There are opportunities for prayer, Mass, and the Sacrament of Reconciliation. The school is decorated with Advent wreaths, Christmas trees, and the Nativity Scene on Hamline Avenue. Yes, students are excited, and staff are preparing for Christmas Break.

I hope you all have the opportunity to spend time with loved ones, enjoy cherished traditions, and create new ones. I hope you have time to rejuvenate, reflect, and pray. I hope that you experience Christ’s love and the love of your friends and families.

I wish you and yours a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year.
