Letter from the Principal - May 2023

May 10, 2023

Dear Parents, Guardians, and Students,

Happy May! I prefer this weather to the “weather events” and online learning days we experienced this winter.  Athletic practices and competitions, performances, activities, and academic events continue to advance as planned. Most importantly, our seniors will graduate in three short weeks. This class has experienced more than their share of setbacks, and yet, they continue to face the world with optimism and hope. We are so proud of them.

I grow sentimental every year at this time, particularly during graduation. When I see the seniors process down the center aisle of the Cathedral, I imagine the first moment they entered their parents’ and guardians’ lives. I think about the hopes and dreams you held for them and all of the choices and sacrifices you made to make them come true. No doubt, you made mistakes along the way, but you provided the love, resources, and guidance necessary for them to graduate. In so many ways, this is your celebration.

Now it’s time for your daughters and sons to establish their own hopes and dreams.  You remain a significant influence, but they will be creating their own lives. They will pave their own paths, make their own decisions, celebrate their own successes, and make their own mistakes. Many times you will be right there alongside them, and other times, they will forge ahead without you.

I assure you that these students – your sons and daughters – are remarkable young adults poised to live ethical, joyful, faithful, and meaningful lives. They owe that to you and the many others who supported them along the way.

On May 31, our seniors will receive their academic diplomas, but more importantly, they will leave prepared to live in the Holy Presence of God and to love God and the dear neighbor without distinction.

Thank you for sharing this journey with us.

God bless you all,

Mona Passman
