Seven Students Travel to Broadway

The annual NYC Broadway trip was held January 31-February 4. Chris Hill and I joined seven students and we all took in five Broadway plays. Uniquely, several of the plays included social justice topics, which resonated with our group. The musical, Come From Away, for example, was based on a true story following the September 11 attacks, where 7,000 stranded passengers landed in a small town and the little community came together to welcome them. Cultures clashed, language was a barrier, but music and genuine kindness resulted in the realization that we are all part of a global family. This was a perfect musical for us to see at this time in our history. In addition to a great performance, students were given a backstage tour.
My favorite part of the trip was connecting with some of our CDH graduates. We were able to have dinner with Dillon Cody‘00 who is currently working as a Sound Designer for Tina Fey’s new musical, Mean Girls. Paige Battarbee’12 joined us for a meal and discussed with students her latest Netflix appearances and audition tips. And, Kathryn Stafford‘16 gave students a tour of NYU Tisch School for the Arts where she is majoring in Dramatic Writing/Playwriting. Go CDH Grads!
