Think Tanks Make Use of Teachers' Expertise

January 22, 2020

This year, four Think Tanks have been convening to discuss topics important to the future of CDH.

These groups give teachers the opportunity to have a voice in major elements of the school.

"These are the people who know the school best, that are closest to the day-to-day," said Principal Mona Passman.

The groups will meet at least a few times a year, although the Academic group has been meeting biweekly as they put together a new schedule for next school year.

"The Academic Think Tank has been more of a working group," Passman explained. "We did a lot of research and talked to other schools and designed a new schedule. And the process, the opportunity to work together collaboratively and develop a solution, was even more rewarding than the result."

The Catholic Identity & Mission think tank has been looking closely at the CDH vision statement - a document that has not been reworked in three decades.

The Diversity & Equity group has been developing a diversity philosophy and focusing on new initiatives to improve diversity and equity at CDH.

Facilities & Grounds collaborated on the development of the Lentsch Forum and infrastructure updates. They have also been developing plans for future facilities projects, and serving as a conduit to keep the rest of the staff informed of changes.

"We are very proud that the faculty and staff have the opportunity to have their voice involved in something that is not directly related to their job description," President Frank Miley said. "They are really making an impact on the broader direction of the school."

Think Tanks are open to all CDH faculty and staff.
