Baseball Welcomes New Head Coach

February 25, 2020

Cretin-Derham Hall has hired Mike Kvasnicka as our new Head Baseball Coach.

Kvasnicka brings an impressive baseball background to CDH. The former 1st Round Draft Pick played 3rd Base, Outfield and Catcher in the minor league systems of both the Houston Astros and Minnesota Twins. Kvasnicka graduated from Lakeville North High School and the University of Minnesota, where he was a member of the 2010 Big 10 Tournament Championship Team – earning the Paul Molitor Batting Champion Award.

“Mike's experience, baseball knowledge, and connections within the Minnesota baseball communities make him a great addition to the CDH athletic family. We are excited to have him join CDH and excited to see how his leadership advances our baseball program into the future,” said Athletic Director Phil Archer ’99.

Kvasnicka is the owner and co-founder of NorthStar Baseball Club, where he coaches elite teams and provides training opportunities.

“I pride myself on my ability to teach the highest-level skills of the game, drawn from my experience in professional baseball, while imparting upon young players a healthy and mature perspective on the game of baseball and its life lessons,” Kvasnicka said.

“The Cretin-Derham Hall program has arguably the most iconic baseball legacy of any high school in the state of Minnesota. I am incredibly honored, humbled, and excited to start my journey and leave my own mark within that legacy – aiming to build upon such a great foundation that has been laid before me. We will continue to set the standard of excellence for our student-athletes, fostering a winning environment while preparing our players for success both on and off the field.”

He holds a Bachelor’s degree in Youth Studies from the School of Social Work at the University of Minnesota. In his spare time, he enjoys spending time with his wife and two young children, particularly spending time outdoors, working in the garden, hiking, canoeing and fishing.
