Cretin-Derham Hall's Nationally Ranked Oturu Commits to Gophers

Daniel Oturu, 2016-17Cretin-Derham Hall High School junior Daniel Oturu, one of the nation's elite boys basketball prospects, today announced his verbal commitment to the University of Minnesota. Raiders Head Boys Basketball Coach Jerry Kline, Jr., confirmed that verbal commitment.

Oturu, a 6-foot- 10 center, is leading the Raiders in scoring with 18 points per game and 15 rebounds per game. As a sophomore, Oturu was selected to the Suburban East Conference All-Conference team and to the All-Metro Third Team.

Ranked 29 in the country according to the Flo40 2018 Rankings, Oturu participated in the 2016 Nike Skills Academy, and played for Howard Pulley Panthers Nike EYBL Team.

Oturu has been recruited by a large number of major Division 1 basketball programs around the country, but he narrowed his list to Minnesota, Kansas, Texas, Baylor, Creighton, Michigan State and Nebraska prior to making his final decision.

Coach Kline describes Oturu as a very long, athletic player who is extremely skilled on the defensive end of the floor with a good basketball IQ. Coach Kline sees Daniel with a bright future and believes he is willing to put in the time to grow and develop in all phases of the game.

Oturu is very excited to commit to the University of Minnesota and begin working with Coach Richard Pitino and Coach Ben Johnson.
