 Athletics

Boys Hockey
by Jim O'Neill, Coach

The Boys Hockey Team is heading down the stretch with a chance to win the Suburban East Conference championship. The Raiders are 10-1 in league play and 12-6 overall. The boys have five more conference games including a rematch versus the Stillwater Ponies who are the only team to defeat the Raiders in conference play. We've had solid goaltending by senior Michael Magnuson and scoring throughout the line up with junior Joey Gimberlin and freshman Matt Gleason leading the way as the top goal scorers. Danny Magnuson leads the defense in plus/minus.

Section play begins at the end of February for the Raiders. Again this year, the team will compete in 6AA with Edina, Wayzata, Benilde-St. Margaret's and others for the right to go to state. Wish the boys luck as they compete for league and section titles.

Girls Golf
by Chad Anderson, Coach

Girls Golf Team at Feed My Starving ChildrenMembers of the Girls Golf team spent a Saturday evening packaging meals at Feed My Starving Children in Eagan.  The girls had a great evening bonding, while working to package 45 boxes of the session's 117 total.

Volleyball

by Rick Kuehlwein, Coach

The volleyball players are having a strong out-of-season program. In order to advance individual skills, several Raiders play with different Junior Olympic Clubs as well as work out in the CDH Fitness Center. CDH 2016 Captain Kate Kohler has been leading present and future CDH players in the Fitness Center to improve quickness, strength and stamina.

Several CDH players are playing with in-house JO program Northern Heat. Northern Heat is mainly for current and future CDH students.  This program prioritizes participation in school programs. Northern Heat presently has six teams that play in 9-10 weekend tournaments, January through April. Each team practices twice per week at CDH for 2 hours with 30 minutes spent in Fitness Center.

Wrestling
by Dan Willaert, Coach

The Raiders Wrestling Team hosted an 8-team tournament for the first time in over a decade on Saturday, February 4. The tournament has been named The Sgt. Michael Carlson Memorial Duals in honor and remembrance of Michael Carlson'00  who died serving our country in Operation Iraqi Freedom. Carlson was a defensive lineman on the 1999 State Championship football team and a standout heavyweight on the mat.

A tough field of teams included Grand Rapids, Fridley, Eden Prairie, Stillwater, Wayzata, Redwood-River Valley, and Lakeville South. Grand Rapids won the team championship for the second year in a row. Merrilee Carlson, Michael's mother, attended the event and presented the team trophy along with "Undefeated" t-shirts to wrestlers who posted perfect 4-0 records on the day. Heavyweight Nick Neumann led the way for the Raiders by winning all four of his matches with two pins.  One pin came just 12 seconds into the bout!

 JROTC

by David Berrisford, SGM, U.S. Army Retired, Instructor

Don't miss our article on the 27th Annual Upper Midwest JROTC Challenge in this month's Communicator.

Our Orienteering Team will be starting their preseason schedule this month. We have many returning students and many more new students that will compete. It looks to be an exciting season.

Our Color Guard and Regulation Drill Teams will be traveling in March to Omaha, NE to compete in a large drill competition. CDH sends 25 students, as well as members of the JROTC staff, and we are confident we will compete well.

Our Air Rifle Team will travel February 15-19 to Camp Perry, OH to compete in the Eastern Regional Air Rifle competition. We qualified for this competition in November, 2016. Five students will make this trip. Based on their performance thus far,  we believe we will do well.

The Honor Guard continues to represent JROTC and CDH at many events. The dedicated students who give freely of their time are so appreciated by our CDH community.

An exciting upcoming event is our Military Ball which will be held on February 24 at Ideal Hall in St. Paul. This is a fun event where the cadets eat a great meal and dance the night away. This is a highly-anticipated dance and we usually have 250-300 attendees.

Our seniors are beginning to receive nominations from members of Congress and our Senators for the academies.  The window for College ROTC applications is closing for all three services. We should begin to hear about our candidates shortly.

Juniors should be taking time to review the steps and begin their application process. If someone is considering enlisting in the military, please consult with us so we can make sure they have ALL the information. We are always willing to answer any questions that students or parents have about military service.

Theater

by Katie Kreitzer, Theater Director

Don't miss the article about our NYC trip in this month's Communicator!

I hope you bought your tickets to the winter black box show, Anonymous. Running five days, from February 8 – 12, the production is sure to be a stunning example of educational theater at its finest.

The play, chosen this summer and guest-directed by Anton Jones, could not be more timely. The main character, Anon, is an immigrant who journeys through the United States and encounters a wide variety of people – some kind and some cruel—as she searches for her family. With a parallel plot to Homer’s Odyssey, the black box show, Anonymous, is sure to be a thoughtful and significantly timely production. I hope to see you there!

Auditions for the spring musical, In the Heights, will be held February 14 and 15.
