The 2024 Intramural Basketball League concluded its season on March 17, with the highly-anticipated end-of-season playoff tournament. Thirteen teams, made up of over 100 students and faculty, participated in the league this year. After a six-week regular season, the top eight teams in the standings advanced to the playoffs. The Fossils faculty team, many of whom are CDH alumni, competed against the Goon Squad student team in the championship game and secured a victory.

Reflecting on the legacy of the league, Tommy Murray ’97, Spanish teacher and long-time intramural participant, emphasized its significance in building camaraderie between students and teachers. The league, which has been active at CDH for over 30 years, provides students with a positive activity on weekends and serves as a platform for friendly competition between students and faculty members.

Sean Van Gemert '96Director of Admissions, joined the team this year and really enjoyed connecting with his fellow staff members and the students, saying "We were able to laugh every Sunday for a couple of hours while participating with some good natured trash-talking and competition."

After a pause due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the league resumed last year with moderate success. This year, however, saw a resurgence in participation, with thirteen teams competing in the intramural league and vying for bragging rights.

According to Murray, Sunday afternoons in the Joe Mauer Fieldhouse were “electric!”

“It was such a great season and we are looking forward to having more teams next year and more grade levels represented.”
